Heavy rain forecast for Buller

A period of rain is being forecast for Buller and for The Tararua Range.

A front is moving up the west coast of the South Island today, and it is forecast to become slow-moving over the upper South Island tonight, before moving northwards during Saturday.

"The heaviest falls are expected to affect Buller from Thursday night till Friday night, and The Tararua Range from Friday evening till Saturday afternoon, and a Severe Weather Watch is now in force," says the MetService.

Valid: 21 hours from 6:00 pm Friday to 3:00 pm Saturday

Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria.

Area: Buller from Westport northwards

Valid: 26 hours from 11:00 pm Thursday to 1:00 am Saturday

Forecast: Periods of heavy rain. Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria.
