A woman who pimped out her teenage daughter and placed her sex ad on the web has been sentenced to six years and 11 months imprisonment.

Kasmeer Lata first blackmailed her 15-year-old daughter into working as a prostitute and she was forced to do so for a 18-month period until late 2016.

She pleaded guilty to dealing in slaves and sexually exploiting and receiving earnings from commercial sexual services provided by an underage person.

In the High Court in Auckland today, Crown Prosecutor Natalie Walker said this was an unprecedented case in New Zealand and was gross offending of the most exploitative kind.

But Lata's lawyer Karl Trotter said she was deeply sorry for what she did and hoped her daughter would find it in her to forgive her one day.

Justice Muir said Lata caused longstanding, if not irreparable, damage to her daughter but a lighter sentence was given for her guilty plea.
