Ex-Cyclone Gita is tracking to hit central New Zealand tomorrow.
MetService has forecast the storm will bring heavy rain and strong winds, and Civil Defence and has warned people in the firing line to be ready for power cuts, road closures and evacuations.
The storm caused havoc in the Pacific where, at times, it measured category five, the highest possible. It flattened and flooding homes and business, and knocked out power and communications in Tonga, Samoa and some Fiji islands.

• Nelson and West Coast mayors and council chairs to meet with MetService again today for a weather update.
• Possible state of emergency will be declared, to be discussed today
• Residents told to check emergency kits, fill up on gas and tie down or remove outside furniture
