UPDATE: Wellington Police have confirmed the 66-year-old man previously missing in Johnsonville has been found safe and well.
It is understood Graham Penny was found a short time ago at a residential property in west Johnsonville as a result of information received from a member of the public.
A spokesperson said: "The search team are very grateful for the support and assistance provided by the Johnsonville community during the search."
Police are growing increasingly concerned for the wellbeing of missing 66-year-old Graham Penny amid deteriorating weather conditions in the Wellington region.
Mr Penny, who suffers from dementia, has been missing from his Johnsonville rest home since around 4:30pm yesterday.
He is believed to be wearing blue/black trackpants, a blue/black tshirt, and blue shoes. He usually wears glasses, but it is not known if he has them with him.
A Wellington Police spokesperson said: "We would like to thank all those members of the public who have contacted us today with possible sightings of Mr Penny.
"Please continue to keep an eye out for Mr Penny tonight if you are in the Johnsonville area, and call Police immediately on: 04 381 2000 if you see someone fitting his description.
"We would also request that Johnsonville residents check or re-check any outdoor buildings on their property, in case Mr Penny has sought shelter.
"Please also get in touch if you have any other information which may help us to locate Mr Penny."
