Police can now release the name of the man killed in a crash in Wairoa over the weekend.

He was 22-year-old Gisborne man Ryan Glen Crisp.

The incident happened shortly after 7:30pm in Frasertown on Sunday (10th September).

A spokesperson for the authorities confirmed the cause of the crash and the circumstances surrounding it are still under investigation.

Prior to the crash, police had observed a vehicle speeding and signalled to the driver to pull over.

However, the driver failed to stop and fled from police.

Shortly after, officers received a report that a vehicle had crashed on Awamate Road.

Inspector Sam Aberahama said: "Police have since established this vehicle was the same one being driven by the fleeing driver in the pursuit just minutes earlier."
