Motivation to commit and practice

By: Mary Parker

“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” Melody Beattie.

It’s important to understand what we gain from certain actions, as this will motivate us to more fully commit to, and practice them.

We often hear that we need to be grateful for things in our life, however, what is it that happens when we are grateful? Recently I was on a retreat and came to the simple realisation that gratitude brings balance. When we are struggling with a situation and we look for something to be grateful for within that set of circumstances, it allows us to step back and gain more of the picture.

This brings more balance and control, which in turn helps us to be more open to the whole picture, even as we are dealing with the difficulties.

What difficult situation in your life would change right now if you brought some gratitude into it?
