A female pedestrian is in a critical condition in hospital this evening after being hit by a vehicle near Cambridge.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating after the woman was hit by a car on Bracken Street in Leamington.
Police were notified at around 7:30pm. Bracken Street remains closed to traffic and officers are understood to have spoken with the driver of the vehicle.
St John Ambulance staff were still at the scene shortly before 8pm and the female was transported to Waikato Hospital.
Speaking to Stuff, Senior Sergeant Ray Malcolmson said: "She appears to have been getting out of her vehicle."
However, at this stage police are unable to confirm this was the case.
